PANORA — Road losses Thursday and Friday have the W-G boys 0-2 to start the new basketball season. W-G was handed a 74-56 WCAC loss at Panorama Friday, one day after host Martensdale-St. Marys grounded their guests, 79-43.

W-G held a 9-7 lead after the first eight minutes of play Friday, but the Panthers exploded for a 28-9 edge in the second frame to post a 35-18 halftime lead. Panorama led, 52-32, after three quarters en route to the win.

Walker Deputy had 15 points and Dylan Backe 12 for W-G, with Collin and Brody Nardini adding eight points apiece. Five points from Worth Henry and four each from Coby Peters and Carter Moran capped the Hawk scoring.

Backe had six assists and four rebounds, with Deputy clearing five boards. Deputy and Collin Nardini sank two 3-point shots apiece, with Henry adding a trey.

Evan Taylor led Panorama with 20 points while grabbing eight rebounds, with Zach Rizzuti adding 16 points.

W-G found themselves facing a 22-9 deficit after one quarter of action Thursday, with M-SM racing to a 43-19 advantage at the intermission. The gap stood at 66-35 entering the fourth quarter, far too much for the Hawks to overcome.

Peters had 13 points, Moran 10 and Backe seven. Deputy had six points, Henry four, Ethan Moats two and Brody Nardini one.

Henry had four rebounds, with Peters, Moran and Deputy pulling down three boards apiece while Backe had four assists. Moran hit two 3-pointers and Peters and Backe one each.

Trey Baker had 24 points and eight caroms for the Blue Devils, with J.R. Archibald and Jack Franey providing 16 points apiece.

W-G hosts Earlham Tuesday and West Central Valley Friday in a pair of WCAC boys/girls sets, each beginning at 6 p.m.
