Hawk boys take two from Wildcats in WCC play

STUART — A sweep in Thursday’s doubleheader at West Central Valley lifted Woodward-Granger to 12-7 overall and 11-5 in conference play in WCC baseball action.

W-G was an 8-2 winner in the opener before posting a 9-5 victory as the home team in the nightcap.

Reese Jamison had a single and a triple while Nick Brummond had two singles and a pair of RBIs. Race Brant aided the Hawk offense with a single, stolen base and run scored while Marcus McConahay, Jackson Larson and Cole Theisen all had base hits.

Brady Aunspach allowed two runs on five hits and four walks in six inning while striking out three. Brandon Worley struck out one in an inning of relief.

WCV scored four times in the top of the first and countered a W-G run with another score of their own in the second to grab a quick 5-1 lead and chase starter Matt Buch, who surrendered five runs on four hits a walk while fanning one in 1.1 innings on the bump.

Worley relieved tossing 5.2 frames of scoreless relief to earn the win. He yielded four hits and two walks while striking out three.

W-G closed to within 5-2 with a run in the third, then seized control of the game by crossing the plate six times in the fifth before tacking on a final run in the sixth.

Aunspach had a double and two RBIs, Theisen was 2-for-4 with a double while Brant had a triple, two steals and two runs scored. Brummond was 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI while Jamison was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Mitch Knuth provided a two-run double and McConahay a RBI.
