GREENFIELD, Iowa — Woodward-Granger ran into Class 2A No. 12 Nodaway Valley in the Region 7 Quarterfinals Tuesday, and the Wolverines lived up to their status, posting a 76-53 victory.

NV (19-3) was quickly out in front, opening a 25-12 lead over W-G (8-15) after eight minutes of play. The Hawk deficit was 39-28 at the half, but grew to 57-43 as the fourth frame began, a margin too great to overcome.

Darby Nixon led W-G with 17 points, with Grace Deputy adding 16 points and Lexi Bogardus 12. Five points from Georgia Simmons and three from Rian Jamison capped the Hawk scoring.

The Hawks made six 3-pointers, with Nixon landing three and Deputy, Simmons and Jamison one each.

Maddax DeVault had 26 points and Lindsey Davis 23 to guide NV. Each had a trio of treys.

Both teams attempted 23 free throws, with the Hawks connecting on 13 and Wolverines on 18.

Nixon was 6-of-8 at the stripe and finishes her senior career 95-of-127, a 75 percent accuracy clip.

The game was the final cage contest for W-G seniors Nixon, Jamison and Kenzie Dresback.
