Hawk girls to compete in two events at state meet

STATE CENTER — As they were last spring, the Woodward-Granger girls track team will be represented at Class 2A state meet by Emma Drake in the 800 and by the 4×800 relay team.

Drake was second Friday in the 800 in 2 minutes, 27.11 seconds to secure her spot in the 800. She anchored the 4×800 team that included Anna Tague, Ava Petersen and Josie Noland and which finished second in 10:15.26 to insure a spot at Drake Stadium.

The 4×800 will run in a timed final at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, with the timed finals in the 800 staring at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Bella Milosevich and Maddy Mann will be alternates for the relay.

Madrid scored 108 points to win the girls side of the state qualifying meet hosted by West Marshall, with Dike-New Harford second at 99 while the host Trojans were third at 89. W-G was 10th of 12 teams with 42 points.

Roland-Story (118), D-NH (114) and Madrid (113) were tightly packed atop the boys team standings, with W-G 12th with 18 points.

Mae Anderson was sixth for W-G in the 100 hurdles in 18.54 seconds and Alexandria Mehrhoff eighth in the 100 in 14.47 to account for the other individual points scored by the Hawk girls.

Darby Nixon ran the 200 in 32.03, Abby Pommrehn the 400 in 1:16.86 and Brayten Ashman the 400 hurdles in 1:24.77, with Milosevich competing in both the 1500 (6:05.96) and 3000 (14:49.51).

Mehrhoff landed at 12 feet, 10-1/4 inches in the long jump, with Kaydee Bennett shoving the shot put 32’7 with Janae Jones hurled the discus 89’4.

The distance medley of Tague, Petersen, Drake and Kayley Dresback was third in 4:37.07, with the shuttle hurdle of Mae Anderson, Emma Anderson, Petersen and Olivia Sus fourth in 1:17.83 while Dresback, Tague, Petersen and Drake placed fifth in the 4×400 (4:26.86).

Chloe Houge, Emma Anderson, Gena Tague and Mehrhoff were fifth in the 4×100 (56.05), with Houge, Mehrhoff, Gena Tague and Ashman running the 4×200 in 2:03.11 while Houge, Ashman, Pommrehn and Emma Anderson finished the sprint medley in 2:11.93.

Bryce Achenbach and Dylan Bird were 7-8 for the W-G boys in the long jump at 19’9-3/4 and 19’6-1/4, respectively, with Jack Meusburger (36’11) leading the way in the shot put for the Hawks while Justin Wheeler threw the discus (100’9).

Logan Roll was seventh in the 100 (11.98) and Worth Henry eighth in the 400 (56.17), with Henry also competing in the 110 (18.64) and 400 (1:04.32) hurdles.

Reese Jamison ran the 200 (25.62) and Caleb Jones the 800 (2:18.9) for the Hawks, with Jack Grell on the track for the 1600 (5:18.34) while Dylan Steele was the first W-G finisher in the 3200 (11:41.31).

Jones, Kaya Bowlsby, Cody Garland and Cale Pritchett were fifth in the 4×800 (8:54.14), Achenbach, Garland, Pritchett and Keith Braunschweig sixth in the 4×400 (3:42.7) and Achenbach, Braunschweig, Roll and Pritchett seventh in the 4×200 (1:39.09).

Placing eighth were Braunschweig, Henry, Bowlsby and Tate Lettow in the shuttle hurdle (1:11.94) and Roll, Jamison, Bird and Kade Polich in the 4×100 (47.68) with Achenbach, Pritchett, Braunschweig and Garland eighth in the distance medley (3:54.63).

Also in action was the sprint medley foursome of Polich, Roll, Jamison and Bird, with the quartet crossing in 1:44.26.
