Hawk golfers host Cardinals, Tigers for coed meet

WOODWARD — Earlham and Madrid visited the Woodward Golf Course Tuesday for a WCAC triangular with host W-G.

The three boys teams finished within five strokes of each other, with Madrid winning at 182 while Earlham shot 186 and W-G 187. W-G defeated Earlham, 221-283, on the girls side, with Madrid not producing a team score as the Tigers had only three players in action.

Madrid’s Keaton Kirby and Earlham’s Trent Williamson claimed medalists honors in the boys meet with cards identical scores of 43, with girls honors going to W-G’s Cierra DeHoet (47) and Earlham’s Meredith Hochstetler (54).

Nick Brummond and Coby Peters each had rounds of 45 for the W-G boys, with Max Helbling shooting a 48 and Matt Buch a 49. Hunter Pifer (51) and Nick Buch (57) also played for the hosts.

Kirby (43) and Tyler Lawrenson (44) were joined in a winning effort by Colton Eccles (46) and Jacob Meeker (49), with Jacob Loew (56) and Trent Larsen (61) also making the circuit for Madrid.

Joining Williamson (43) in scoring for Earlham were Grant Petersen (47), Ben Clement (48) and Quinn Weber (48). Also playing for the Cardinals was Dawson Madren (50) and Jerod Leporte (53).

Emma Greiner (55), Aubrey Mescher (58) and Emily Trewet (61) joined DeHoet in providing the team score for the Hawk girls. Megan Burkhart had a personal-best round of 64 for W-G, and Bailey Thompson had an 81, neither of which was used for the team total.

Hochstetler’s 54 led Earlham, with Kaylee Hohertz adding a 64, Ella Goodrich a 68 and Ashleigh Weesner a 97.

Sophia Harshberger (60), Sydney Weise (64), and Malorie Smith (67) played for the Madrid girls.

The W-G girls host their annual 18-hole invitational at 1 p.m. Thursday, with both Hawks  teams set to visit the 5×80 course in Menlo Friday for a meet hosted by West Central Valley.
