Hawk harriers send full rosters to Bomber Invite

HUXLEY — Monday’s cross country meet at Ballard was one the Woodward-Granger runners had been waiting for, as both varsity, both middle school and the boys junior varsity teams were all able to compete. W-G did not have a girls JV squad in action.

Nodaway Valley (64), North Polk (71) and Madrid (73) were the top boys team in the Class B section, with W-G 10th of 12 at 269.

Dylan Steele (19 minutes, 49 seconds) and Alex Bice (20:15.3) were 38th and 46th, respectively, to lead the Hawks. Also scoring were Jack Grell (57th, 20:44), Caleb Jones (63rd, 21:08.1) and Carsten Wright (65th, 21:10), with Xavier Ibarra (70th, 21:35.8) and Kaya Bowlsby (79th, 23:03.9) running for the varsity as well.

North Polk (77) won the girls Class B event, with W-G 10th of 11 at 313.

Natalie Helbling (27:39.9), Sydney Grell (28:41.4), Kaitlyn Smith (28:46.4), Katie Grell (29:16.7) and Makenzie Dresback (30:46.3) crossed 56-60-62-67-68 to generate the team score. Emma Drake (70th, 31:09.8) and Madisyn Mann (71st, 33:21.6) also ran for the varsity.

Joel Harney (25:04), Landon Bogardus (25:59.3), Kainen Fuson (26:30.4), Kurt Crouse (26:48.8), Tjaden Smeltzer (27:24.8), Vlad Dodon (27:36.4) and Logan Roll (29:15.6) competed for the W-G boys JV.

Running the two-mile boys middle school race were Aiden Topalovich (14:53), Casey Foster (15:03.2), Dillon Limoges (16:28.7), Grant Polito (16:51.3), Sterling Parkinson (17:24.1), Tyler Anousis (17:34.9) and Shaefer Hanson (19:08.9).

Libby Grell (16:02), Avery Smith (16:52), Ella Beerbower (18:13.4), Lauren Rodgers (18:56.4) and Alexis Bogardus (19:21.3) competed for the W-G middle school girls.

W-G will be in action Thursday at Panorama and at ADM Monday before visiting Roland-Story Sept. 26.
