GRANGER — Trailing 8-4 after four innings, Woodward-Granger clawed desperately to claim back into their WCC game with visiting Ogden Thursday. The Hawks scored twice in the fifth to halve their deficit and plated a run in the seventh, but were retired with two men aboard in suffering an 8-7 loss.

W-G had a 2-1 lead after one frame, but three Ogden runs in the second and two each in the fourth and fifth offset single Hawk tallies in the third and fourth to create the 8-4 lead for the visitors.

The Hawks rallied back into the contest in the fifth, with the highlight a straight steal of home by Brady Aunspach. The hosts closed to within 8-7 with a run in the seventh, and had runners on second and first but could not tie the game.

Jackson Larson went 3-1/3 innings in taking the loss. He allowed eight runs (one was unearned) on six hits and three walks. Ryan Renshaw tossed 3-2/3 innings of relief, yielding three hits. Renshaw finished with four strikeouts and Larson with two.

Mike Connor and Aunspach each had two hits, with Race Brant, Austin Scharlau and Tre Loge adding hits. Aunspach and Scharlau hit doubles, with Aunspach and Loge each driving in two runs and Alex Bodermann one.
