Hawk track teams participate in Wildcat Relays

STUART — Woodward-Granger sent both the Hawk boys and girls thinclads to the Wildcat Relays Thursday, a coed event hosted by West Central Valley.

Van Meter and AC/GC flip-flopped winning team titles, with the former winning the boys meet by a thin 148-144 margin while the latter claimed the girls crown with a decisive 169-118 margin. W-G was seventh in a nine-team boys field with 79 points, with the Hawk girls sixth in an eight-team meet with 59 points.

The Hawk boys scored well in field events, with Keith Braunschweig second in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches, while Cale Pritchett was sixth at 5’6 while Bryce Achenbach placed fourth in the long jump at 18’6-1/2.

Brendan Bird and Brody Easter were 3-5 in the discus at 131’8 and 118’9, respectively, with Dillon Fogarty placing fourth in the shot put at 40’2.

Braunschweig was third in the 110 hurdles in 17.23 seconds, Caleb Jones sixth in the 1600 in 5 minutes, 16.32 seconds and Dyaln Steele sixth in the 3200 in 11:46.8.

Achenbach, Pritchett, Ian Thompson and Josh Saak won the 4×400 in 3:41.58, with Reese Jamison replacing Pritchett for the winning distance medley, which crossed in 3:55.04.

Jones, Jake Grell, Alex Bice and Kaya Bowlsby were second in the 4×800 (9:19.5), Braunschweig, Worth Henry, Pacey Moats and Tate Lettow third in the shuttle hurdle (1:09.7) and Jay Dorenkamp, Kade Polich, Jamison and Saak fourth in the sprint medley (1:46.59).

Achenbach, Jamison, Dorenkamp and Polich were fourth in the 4×100 (48.52), with Polich, Pritchett, Dorenkamp and Gage Lisle fourth in the 4×200 (1:43).

Natalie Helbling was fourth in the girls 800 for W-G in 2:55.45. She was fourth (1:11.68) and Elly Polich sixth (1:12.65) in the 400, with Kaitlyn Peters third (5:42.15) in the 1500 while Briley Bermel placed fourth (13:54.18) in the 3000.

Emma Drake, Anna Tague, Kayley Dresback and Ava Petersen won the 4×400 in 4:31.85, with Drake, Peters, Tague and Petersen winning the 4×800 in 10:44.05.

Drake and Petersen paired with Tague and Katelyn Bandstra to finish second, in 4:48.89, in the distance medley while a 2:07.86 from Bandstra, Dresback, Mae Anderson and Gena Tague finished third in the sprint medley.

Bandstra, Anderson, Gena Tague and Josie Noland were sixth in the 4×100 (58.76), Bandstra, Noland, Gena Tague and Alissa Smeltzer fifth in the 4×200 (2:04.36) and Anderson, Mollie Frost and Chloe and Sophie David fifth in the shuttle hurdle (1:21.63).

W-G also received a sixth-place point from Janae Jones in the discus after a best spin on 80’4.

Both Hawk teams will return to action Tuesday when they host the W-G Relays at Uthe Track.
