DES MOINES — Woodward-Granger topped AC/GC, 3-2, while falling to host Des Moines Christian, 3-0, in a WCAC volleyball triangular Tuesday. The results follow a tough winless stretch of six matches at the annual Skip Anderson tournament in Bondurant Saturday.

DMC topped W-G on scores of 25-10, 25-12, and 25-16 Tuesday, but a thrilling five-game set against AC/GC helped the Hawks post a split result. The teams traded 25-15 wins to start the match, with AC/GC winning game one. A 25-23 Charger win in game three imperiled the overall outcome, but W-G rallied for a 25-20 win in game four and then scored a 15-9 triumph in the deciding fifth game to win the match.

Jada Tague had 13 kills Tuesday to pace W-G, with Lindsey Mescher adding nine combined kills and Grace Deputy and Samantha Volz seven kills each. Audrey Simmons tallied six kills, Ashley Gerken five, Brayten Ashman three, and Darby Nixon one.

Twenty-three assists were handed out by Simmons and 11 by Volz, with Nixon tallying six assists, Ashman four, Deputy two, and Gerken one.

Nixon led the defensive effort with 37 digs, with Ashman having 24 and Simmons 17. Volz finished with nine digs and Tague and Mescher with seven each while Deputy had two. Bella McDivitt and Gerken also had digs for the Hawks.

Simmons served 24-of-28 with two aces and Nixon 18-19-4 while Tague was 14-16-3 and Ashman 18-19-3. Volz was 26-of-26 with an ace, Deputy 16-18-1, and Mescher 12-15-1 behind the line.
