INDIANOLA, Iowa — Woodward-Granger fell twice in a wrestling triangular Thursday, an event in which they almost did not compete in.

Host Indianola topped W-G, 64-9, with Pella a 45-35 winner over W-G. Indianola was a 60-6 victor over Pella in the other dual.

A bus driver shortage threatened to keep the Hawks from attending, but Indianola graciously sent a bust to Woodward to collect, and then return, the W-G team, earning praise and gratitude from W-G officials.

Alex Evans had two wins at 220 for W-G, scoring a 7-6 decision against the home team while pinning his Pella foe in 2 minutes, 50 seconds.

Alex Saxton won by pin at 106 in 5:23 against the Indians, they moved up to 113 to pin his Little Dutch foe in just 10 ticks to finish 2-0.

W-G also had a win at 106 against Pella when Brady Stucker received a forfeit.

Peyton Nixon notched a 17-1 win by technical fall against Pella at 132 to finish 1-1, with Kolby Fogarty 1-1 at 170 with a 12-3 major decision against Pella while 145-pounder Blake Tuehl won by forfeit against Pella.

Unable to collect wins in two matches for the Hawks were Holdon Heard (120), James Dorrian (126), Tjaden Smeltzer (138), Brayden Simons (152), Max Dalton (160) and Bryce Hockenson (182).

W-G left 195 and 285 open against both opponents.

The Hawks are slated to compete Saturday at the Perry Invitational. The start time has been moved up to 11 a.m. from 9:30 a.m.
