Hawks girls win, boys fall to host Rams Monday

JEFFERSON, Iowa — Woodard-Granger topped host Greene County, 50-35, in non-conference girls basketball Monday, with the Rams topping the visiting Hawks, 67-53, in the boys contest.

W-G (5-8) held a 23-18 lead at the half of the first game, and owned a 31-25 edge as the final frame began.

Grace Deputy scored 12 of her team-best 14 points in the first half for W-G. Darby Nixon had eight points and Lexi Bogardus and Georgia Simmons six each while Rian Jamison had two points.

The Rams (1-11) were led by 18 points from Brianna Hobson.

Greene County (5-6) was out fast in the boys game, opening an 11-2 lead after one frame before going to the locker room with a 33-16 advantage. The margin swelled to 56-30 after eight more minutes of play and the Hawks could not catch up, even after outscoring the Rams, 23-11, in the fourth quarter.

W-G (1-10) had four players reach double-digits in scoring, with Carter Moran scoring 13 points, Josh Hultman and Dane Polich 11 each at Brody Nardini 10. Collin Nardini tallied five points and Bryan Jesse three.

Moran hit three 3-pointers, Brody Nardini two, and Collin Nardini, Hultman and Jesse one each. Brody Nardini and Hultman had nine rebounds apiece and Polich six.

Richard Daugherty had 14 points, Jesse Miller 12 and Bryce Stalder 11 for the Rams, who improved to 6-6 with the victory.

W-G hosts Madrid tonight and visits Ogden Friday.
