JEFFERSON — The Woodward-Granger basketball teams each posted workman-like wins in non-conference play Monday, with the Hawk girls topping host Greene County, 49-23, while the W-G boys recorded a 53-26 victory.

W-G is having a record year on the hardwood for combined seasons as the Hawk girls are now 11-2 and the boys 11-1. Greene County fell to 2-8 in boys play while the girls are winless in 10 tries.

The 11-2 mark for the Hawk girls matches their win total of last year, when the team finished 11-12. W-G has not won 12 games since the 20-14-2015 team finished 12-11.

“We are winning games we should win,” Hawk head coach Gary Dresback said. “That didn’t always happen last year. We need to continue to do that, and tomorrow (W-G is at WCV tonight) could be a test.”

W-G was off to a 19-4 lead after one period Monday and entered the break holding a 32-10 advantage. Reserves saw plenty of playing time after the break, with Dresback trying to keep legs fresh as the team will host Van Meter Thursday and Ogden Friday, a four-games-in-five-days stretch.

Emma Anderson led W-G with 10 points, with Ava Petersen adding nine points and Jenna Achenbach seven. Five points apiece from Finley Fitzgerald and Darby Nixon, four from Natalie Helbling, three from Katelyn Scharlau and two each from Quinn Kaufman, Rian Jamison and Grace Deputy capped the scoring for the guests.

Izzy Bravard’s seven points paced the Rams. Sadie Wilson had six points and Brianna Habben four, with Eliza Carlson, Brianna Osterson, and Kamryn Sanders each scoring two points.

The Hawk boys were hardly challenged in winning their 10th consecutive game. The visitors held leads of 13-3 after one quarter, of 27-9 after two and of 42-17 after three.

Bryce Achenbach had 14 points and Keith Braunschweig 10 for W-G. Alex Bice had seven points, Jack Grell six and Reese Jamison and Nick Buch four apiece, with Kaya Bowlsby scoring three points, Pacey Moats and Walker Deputy two each and Trevor Simmons one.

Six points from Richard Daugherty and five from Carter Morton led Greene County.
