Hawks make quick work of host Tigers

MADRID — Efficient serving and domination at the net carried visiting Woodward-Granger to 3-0 win over Madrid in WCAC volleyball Tuesday.

W-G (9-13, 5-2) connected on 64-of-73 (87.7 percent) serves, with 19 total aces, which helped set the tone of the match.

Brayten Ashman was 21-of-21 with four aces while serving, with Faith Kuehl 15-15-5 and Natalie Weaver 7-8-4. Darby Nixon was 8-9-4 behind the line, Elly Polich 7-9-1, and Audrey Simmons 6-11-1.

Grace Deputy had 1-1/2 blocks at the net, with Ashman credited with one block and Simmons with an assisted rejection. Simmons led the defense with eight digs, with Nixon and Polich making six each, Weaver five, Ashman four and Kuehl two.

Polich and Weaver paced the offensive attack with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, with Simmons making five kills. Ashman and Gena Tague had two kills apiece, with Kuehl and Nixon each making a single kill.

W-G returns to action Thursday when they host Pleasantville, with a trip to Panorama scheduled for Tuesday.
