Hawks make quick work of Tigerhawks in playoff opener

WOODWARD — Tuesday’s Class 2A Region 4 first round match between Woodward-Granger and visiting Colfax-Mingo was a one-sided affair from the outset, with the hosts cruising to a 3-0 victory.

The win moves W-G (22-10) into an Oct. 22 match at 15th-ranked South Hamilton (21-10). The winner returns to Jewell Oct. 25 to meet with victor of BLCUW (27-10) and Belle Plaine (23-5).

The Regional Final will be played in Earlham Oct. 30. AC/GC faces Ogden and No. 7 Tri-Center will meet Underwood in the other side of the bracket.

W-G opened Tuesday’s action with a swift 25-8 win in the first set. A 25-16 victory followed, with the Hawks completing the sweep by posting a 25-14 win in the third set.
