W-G's Keith Braunschweig scores from inside during a game last season. The junior post had 13 points and nine rebounds in Tuesday's win at Interstate-35.

WOODWARD — Monday’s non-conference contest between Saydel and host Woodward-Granger was decided in the first eight minutes, as the Hawk boys raced to a 19-5 lead over their guests. By halftime the margin was 41-16 as W-G (3-1) sailed to a 75-35 victory.

Saydel (1-3) was coming off a 74-7 loss to PCM Friday, and while clearly outmatched played with typical energy. Though the game was quickly out of hand, the Eagles, to their credit, continued to hustle and make the Hawks work for their points.

Keith Braunschweig led all scorers with 20 points to pace W-G, with Noah Hoyt adding 13 points and Bryce Achenbach 11 as 11 different Hawks entered the scoring column.

J.P. Nixon had eight points and Pacey Moats and Reese Jamison five points apiece, with both Alex Bice and Kaya Bowlsby scoring four points. Brendan Bird and Joe Rhodes had two points apiece, with a free throw from Cole Theisen completing the scoring ledger.

W-G will host Woodward Academy in a junior varsity/varsity set tonight. The Hawks will visit Van Meter Friday when they rejoin the girls team for a WCAC twin bill.
