Hawks streak past host Cardinals

EARLHAM — Woodward-Granger lifted their WCAC record to 3-2 and their overall mark to 7-13 with a 3-0 sweep of Earlham Tuesday.

W-G cruised to the victory with set wins of 25-16, 25-11, and 25-11, dropping the host Cardinals to 4-11, 3-2.

Elly Polich led a wide-ranging attack with 14 kills, with Natalie Weaver adding nine. Brayten Ashman and Audrey Simmons had three apiece and Grace Deputy and Lindsey Mescher two each. Simmons distributed 15 assists, Polich seven, Weaver four, Deputy three, and Ashman and Mescher one each.

Weaver had two blocks at the net and Simmons 1.5, with Ashman, Polich, Deputy and Mescher also providing rejections. Polich had 15 digs, libero player Darby Nixon 10, and Simmons nine, with Weaver having five digs, Faith Keuhl four, with Ashman, Mescher and Emily Trewet making one each.

The Hawks were quite effective serving the ball as well, finishing 69-of-74 (93.2 percent) with 14 total aces.

Weaver was 16-of-17 with five aces, with Polich 11-12-4. Keuhl was 12-12-2 behind the line, Darby Nixon 11-12-1, Ashman 9-10-2 and Simmons 10-of-11.

W-G is off until a Tuesday visit from Ogden.
