Hawks streak past Roadrunners in conference play

WOODWARD — A one-sided affair went in favor the hosts Tuesday as Woodward-Granger cruised to a 3-0 sweep over Interstate-35 in WCAC volleyball.

W-G won with scores of 25-9, 25-11, and 25-7, lifting their record to 4-11 overall and 2-2 in league play. The setback dropped I-35 to 1-9, 0-4.

Seven Hawks recorded kills in the three-set win, with nine from Elly Polich and five from Natalie Weaver leading the way. Grace Deputy had three kills, with Audrey Simmons and Samantha Volz recording two apiece and Brayten Ashman and Lindsey Mescher one each.

Simmons distributed 11 assists and Polich six, with Emily Trewet providing two assists and Mescher and Faith Keuhl one apiece.

Eleven digs from libero player Darby Nixon was the team high, with Weaver tallyign seven digs and Polich five. Simmons was credited with four digs, Deputy and Keuhl two apiece and Mescher and Trewet one each. Ashman and Weaver each had an assisted block.

W-G served at a 90.5 percent clip, connecting on 67-of-74 attempts with 12 total aces.

Polich was 16-of-16 with five aces, with Simmons 14-of-16 with four and Ashman 14-of-15 with one. Trewet was 7-9-1 and Weaver 4-6-1, with Keuhl 6-of-6, Nixon 5-of-5 and Volz 1-of-1.

W-G will play Saturday in the Ballard Invitational before visiting Earlham Tuesday.
