GUTHRIE CENTER — The Woodward-Granger baseball team evened their overall mark at 4-4 and moved to 3-2 in WCC play after throttling Guthrie Center twice Wednesday.

W-G baseball and softball are both playing several conference doubleheaders on Thursday’s this season, but Wednesday’s twin bill was the result of a rain out from May 26.

The Hawks had little trouble in posting two lopsided wins, claiming a 13-1 victory as the home team in the first contest before recording a 13-2 triumph as the visiting team in the nightcap. Both games ended after five innings.

Jackson Larson yielded an unearned run on two hits and a walk while striking out one in winning the opener.

Colt Palmer was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs, with Race Brant 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and three RBIs to spark the W-G offense.

Brady Aunspach had a single and a double, with Marcus McConahay and Austin Scharlau also smacking doubles. Cole Theisen drove in two runs and McConahay one in the lopsided win.

Austin Ober struck out eight batters while walking only two in grabbing the win in the second game. He allowed two runs, neither of which were earned, on two hits in five frames of work.

The Hawks received nine bases on balls in the game, with Brant, McConahay and Aunspach each walking twice and scoring twice. Theisen had a double, scored three times and drove in four runs, with Larson adding a double and three RBIs while Cole Moran provided a base hit.

Scharlau had a single and launched a home run, his first. He finished with two RBIs and scored twice, with Aunspach also driving in a run.

The Hawks will make the short trip to the Woodward Academy for a varsity doubleheader today, with the first game to begin at 5 p.m. W-G will then visit Des Moines North Friday.
