Small bales were fetching from $3 to $6 and large bales $50 to $80 Saturday afternoon at the weekly sale by BC Hay Auction at 18th Street and Willis Avenue, near the site of the old Perry Sales Pavilion.

Linda Campidilli of Bouton, who keeps the books for the hay her husband, Bill, and son, Todd, sell, said Saturday’s warm weather brought out a good crowd, and prices were fair.

“We even had some come up from Missouri,” Campidilli said.

Louie Hensen, 96, was the clerk at Saturday’s auction. Hensen and his wife, Doris Hensen, were for many years the owners of the Perry Sales Pavilion, the town’s sale barn.

With the decline of traditional livestock farming in the Perry area, the Perry Sales Pavilion was closed and the building demolished in 2009, ending 76 years of commercial service to Perry’s rural community.

There is nothing like a rock in the boot to girl a little cowgirl the blues., though Fido seems to have spotted something of interest.
