The Bouton and Woodward fire departments responded Sunday night to a report of a possible fire or chemical leak in the vicinity of the Four Corners at Iowa Highway 141 and U.S. Highway 169.
The agencies responded about 7:45 p.m., and an investigation led to a controlled burn at 22918 141st Dr., where a junk pile on the western side of the property was found burning.
The acrid smoke from the burning pile suggested that tires were among the blazing junk.
Bouton Volunteer Fire Department Chief Karl Harris said investigation of the incident was turned over to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Air Quality Bureau.
The 2.16-acre property is owned by Salvador Mesquitan Salcedo of Perry, according to Dallas County records.
