Windblown limbs might have been the reason for the power loss near Seventh and Bateman streets Sunday night, where an Alliant Energy field worker was seen working.

An Alliant Energy field worker was seen in action near Seventh and Bateman streets Sunday about 9 p.m., removing limbs in order to reconnect a power line to a power pole.

“Those limbs were brought down by the Alliant Energy employee with a chain saw so he could get close enough to the pole to reconnect a downed line,” said Kimberly Goodman, who lives nearby. “Why the line went down we don’t know. We were out of power from 7:15 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. We watched him perform his job and were very grateful to their prompt assistance in fixing the problem.”

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines said isolated strong storms will remain possible Sunday night, with gusty winds and brief, heavy rains the main dangers.

The NWS said storms will remain possible west of U.S. Interstate 35 until late Tuesday night and into Wednesday and across all of central Iowa Friday. The potential for severe thunderstorms is lows.

    • Thank you very much for correcting our rather too speculative report. We do not like to speculate at all, but we are also very reluctant to interrupt workers at work with our nosiness.
