John Hickenlooper, former Denver mayor and Colorado governor, will meet visitors at the Hotel Pattee Sunday, July 7 at 6:30 p.m.

Hickenlooper is seeking the Democratic nomination in the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

A native Pennsylvanian, Hickenlooper worked as an oil company geologist in the 1980s before opening Denver’s first brewpub. He was elected mayor of Denver in 2003 and governor of Colorado in 2011, serving until term limits compelled him from office in 2019.

Hickenlooper is described by Wikipedia as a fiscal conservative and pro-business Democrat. He supports hydraulic fracturing, a method of oil and gas extraction opposed by environmentalists, and he opposed first Denver’s and later Colorado’s decriminalization of cannabis.

He is a distant relative of the Republican Bourke Blakemore Hickenlooper, Iowa governor from 1943 to 1945 and U.S. senator from Iowa from 1945 to 1969.
