Woodward-Granger's Tre Loge rips a base hit against Earlham June 19. Loge was 2-for-2 and drove in both Hawk runs in a loss at Gilbert Wednesday.

GRANGER — Visiting Gilbert improved to 27-4 overall with a 12-2 non-conference win over Woodward-Granger Wednesday. The Hawks fell to 15-11 on the season with the loss.

W-G scored once in the first inning on a Tre Loge single, but before Loge could single in another run in the third inning Gilbert had scored three times in the second and six times in the top of the third for a 9-2 lead.

Three Gilbert runs in the fourth inning helped end the game via the 10-run rule after five full innings.

Mike Connor had a double to aid the W-G offense, with Alex Bodermann and Mason Burkhart adding base hits. Bodermann and Race Brant each scored once, with Burkhart stealing a base while Logan Lande drew a walk.

Ryan Renshaw threw 3-1/1 innings for W-G in suffering the loss. He yielded 11 runs, of which only two were earned. He allowed 12 hits from the bump.

Lande tossed an inning of relief, surrendering a hit, while Ben Krehbiel allowed a run on a hit and a walk before recording two outs.

Errors have strangled the Hawks during their recent three-game losing skid, as 22 of the 27 runs they have yielded in that span have crossed the plate as unearned tallies.

W-G hosts Ogden tonight and Madrid Friday in a rescheduled contest from earlier this season.
