Hit-and-run collision leads to OWI charge for Perry man

A Perry man was arrested for drunk driving early Saturday after he allegedly crashed into a parked car and just kept on driving.

Almin Bahtagic, 30, of 619 Fifth St., Perry, was charged with first-offense OWI.

Amy Jo Bahtagic, 27, of 619 Fifth St., Perry, was arrested on a Polk County warrant for two counts of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.

The collision occurred about 1 a.m. in the 1400 block of Evelyn Street. Almin Bahtagic was traveling eastward on Evelyn Street in a 2008 Infiniti when his vehicle struck a legally parked 2014 Honda Odyssey. The force of the impact pushed the Honda into a second parked vehicle, a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country van.

Bahtagic did not stop at the scene of the collision but proceeded southward on Fifth Street to his residence, where officers of the Perry Police Department placed him under arrest.

Air bags were deployed in the collision, and Bahtagic sustained a laceration to the forehead. He was treated at the Perry Police Department by the Dallas County EMS.

The Perry Volunteer Fire Department was paged to control fluids on the roadway that were spilled in the collision.

Almin Bahtagic is held in the Perry Police Department holding cell.

Amy Jo Bahtagic is held in the Polk County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond.
