A semi-tractor trailer hauling hogs rolled over on the Angus Curve north of Perry on Iowa Highway 144 shortly before 11 a.m. Monday.

There were no injuries reported in the incident except to several hogs that apparently were killed when the southbound semi left the roadway and rolled into the south ditch near 325th Street in Boone County.

The animals trapped within the overturned vehicle could be heard screaming. The hogs that survived the rollover and escaped confinement could be seen grazing in the ditch near the truck, no doubt shocked and puzzled by their first exposure to sunlight and grass.

An officer of the Perry Police Department responded to provide traffic control on the curve notorious for rollover accidents. The Perry Volunteer Fire Department and the Dallas County EMS also responded.

The cause of the mishap will presumably be investigated by Boone County law enforcement upon arrival.
