Homecoming parade to cap PHS Volunteer Day Wednesday

An Homecoming parade organizers hope will be otherworldly will organize at 5:30 p.m. at the Perry High School Wednesday before heading downtown at 6 p.m.

The theme this year is “Bluejays Are Out Of This World” as Perry will be hosting the Comets of North Polk Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday’s activities will begin with Perry students fanning out around the community for a morning of volunteer work projects.

The parade will follow the traditional route west down Willis Avenue before turning north on Second Street for two blocks. A sandwich/chip/drink meal will be offered along Warford Street near the Raccoon Valley Bank, with proceeds given to the Junior Class Prom Committee. Donations of $5 per person or $20 per family are recommended.

The Bluejay football team will be outside the bank to sign posters and pose for photos, with the Perry Booster Club Pop-Up Store on hand, offering Bluejay and Jayette apparel and merchandise.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]

Homecoming activities will continue Thursday, with students dressing in “Space” outfits during the day. The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at a coronation ceremony Thursday in the PHS gym beginning at 8 p.m. A bonfire and pep rally will immediately follow at the Perry Athletic Complex.

Queen candidates include Alondra Avila, Jocelyn Fuentes, Jamileth Sarceno, Julia Stetzel and Jasmine Tobar. The king will come from the quintet of Carlos Calderon, Mario Cruz, Mike Echeverria, Ernesto Jimenez and Kaleb Olejniczak.
