HUXLEY — Ballard seized a 2-0 lead Tuesday in their Raccoon River Conference match with Perry and then fought off a Jayette rally to claim a 5-2 victory in girls soccer action.

The Bombers (6-7-1, 3-1-1) scored in the 11th and 14th minutes to snatch a 2-0 lead. Natalie Martinez closed the gap to 2-1 with an unassisted goal in the 17th minute for Perry (6-8, 3-4), but Ballard scored in the 35th minute to spread their lead to 3-1 at the break.

Martinez added a second unassisted goal less than two minutes into the second half. Ballard responded in the 68th minute to once again lead by two scores, at 4-2, with a final Bomber score coming with 35 seconds remaining to set the final tally.

Jayette goalie Kimberly Castillo had three saves in the first half, and faced an onslaught of shots in the second half, stopping 11-of-13 to finish with 14 saves.

Ballard also won the junior varsity game, rolling to a 6-0 victory.

Perry visits North Polk Thursday in their next action.
