The first points of Tuesday’s non-conference game between Greene County and host Perry came after three minutes had passed and were the product of a 3-point basket from Jayette sophomore Ainsley Marburger.

At the moment it appeared nothing more than a nice way to jump start the offense and maybe give Marburger a little confidence. It did not take long to conclude it achieved both goals and more, as the hosts raced to an 18-3 lead after one quarter on their way to a 44-29 victory.

Marburger was not done, splashing an additional pair of treys in the frame, with Molly Lutmer adding three baskets and a free throw and Gabby West a bucket to fuel the early surge.

Marburger and Peyton Tunink each sank 3-pointers in the second frame, with Hannah Peterson and Kennedy Tunink adding baskets while Jayna Kenney hit two free throws as the scoring was spread throughout the lineup, sending the hosts to a 30-11 halftime lead.

Perry led by as much as 21 points at several points in the third period and entered the fourth quarter holding a 37-19 advantage.

Lutmer finished with 16 points and Marburger 12, with West adding six points. Peyton Tunink had three points, with Kennedy Tunink, Kenney and Peterson providing two points apiece while Quinn Whiton sank a free throw to help Skylar Wolf earn his first win as a varsity head coach.

Bailey Cunningham scored 10 points for Greene County, with Sadie Wilson tallying six points and Brianna Habber five to lead the Rams, who fell to 0-2 with the loss.

Perry, now 1-2, will begin Raccoon River Conference play with a boys/girls set at Carroll Friday. They will return home to host Des Moines Christian for a non-conference boys/girls billing beginning at 1 p.m.
