A Huxley man was arrested Sunday after allegedly brandishing a pistol in the course of a domestic dispute with a woman in Adel.
Darren Kent Dehaven, 32, of 301 E. Fifth St., Huxley, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-display or use a weapon.
The incident began about 8 p.m. Sunday in the 1200 block of Amman Drive in Adel, where officers of the Adel Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.
The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Dehaven “had a
loaded handgun and had threatened to use it against anyone who came to the house,” according to court records.
The victim told the officers that Dehaven “grabbed the firearm and made a threat of violence towards her while holding the firearm,” and the victim said “she feared for her life at that time,” according to court records.
Dehaven left the residence prior to the officers’ arrival but was “stopped by officers, who found a handgun with a loaded magazine” in Dehaven’s vehicle, according to court records.
Dehaven “admitted to grabbing the firearm during the course of the argument.”
Dehaven is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 9 in Dallas County District Court.
Dehaven was convicted of assault in 2023 in Dallas County District Court.
