An Indiana woman was arrested Monday afternoon with about 50 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of her car.

Whitney Lynn Blake, 28, of 3232 S. Leco Lane, Bloomington, Indiana, was charged with controlled substance violation, failure to affix drug stamp and prohibited act by registrant.

The incident began about 2 p.m Monday at 102 mile marker of eastbound U.S. Interstate 80, where a Iowa State Patrol Trooper clocked a 2019 Fore Taurus “traveling over the posted speed limit of 70 miles per hour,” according to court records.

The trooper “developed reasonable articulable suspicion to believe” Blake, the driver of the Taurus, was “participating in criminal activity.” The trooper summoned a K9 unit to the scene.

According to court records, when the dog “gave a positive indication to the suspect vehicle after performing a free air sniff,” a probable-cause search was conducted, and “49 vacuum-sealed one-pound packages of raw marijuana” were disclosed “in the trunk” of the Taurus.

Blake “admitted she was transporting the marijuana from California to Indiana for financial gain,” according to court records.

Blake is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $50,000 cash only bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 10 in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

  1. If she had made it to Illinois, where it is legal, would she be in this much trouble? Or would it just be a matter of untaxed goods? How many people here in Iowa are still getting in trouble for activities that are legal right next door in Illinois?

  2. I’m so glad that desperate criminal was taken off our streets. Silly girl, why did she come from California with that? As Terry points out, it’s legal in Illinois; why did she not go there from Indiana? Did everyone from Iowa cross the border and buy up everything?
