The Perry Lutheran Homes has selected Blue Stone Therapy Solutions to provide expanded rehabilitation and therapy programs with a focus on innovation and personalization to increase the rate of rehabilitation success.

The Perry Lutheran Homes’ partnership with Blue Stone Therapy brings expanded physical, occupational and speech therapy hours and specialized rehabilitation programs for seniors  recuperating from surgery, illness or hospitalization. This partnership allows Perry Lutheran Homes to offer to promote strength, independence, and the best possible quality of life.

One local Perry resident and recent short-term rehabilitative therapy resident, Zak Ibrahim, shared his experience of successful therapy at the Perry Lutheran Homes.

“It has been beyond my expectations,” Ibrahim said. “I came here (from the hospital). I couldn’t walk. I couldn’t talk. And within a week of the nursing and nourishing me with all the help I needed, I gained my health and am beginning to be an independent again.”

Ibrahim is just one of the many success stories that can be told of Perry Lutheran Homes’ rehabilitative therapy program.

“As a leader in utilizing innovation and personalization, Perry Lutheran Homes wanted to bring these same elements to enhance our therapy program to increase rehabilitative therapy success,” said Melissa Gannon, chief operating officer at Perry Lutheran Homes. “After researching many possible partners, Blue Stone Therapy solutions was the right fit four our residents and way of care.”

Gannon said Blue Stone Therapy has developed a customized program for memory-care residents unlike anything here in Iowa.

“Our therapists are also using cutting-edge technology called IN2L (It’s Never 2 Late) to work with our speech therapy program to improve cognition,” she said. “Using innovation and personalization helps take rehabilitative therapy to the next level, providing better outcomes instead of using a one-size-fits-all approach.”

In addition to rehabilitative therapy, the Perry Lutheran Homes Skilled Nursing and Memory Care communities at the Willis Campus also offer a wide range of care services, including dietary services, restorative therapy and recreational activities designed to improve the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of their residents.

Activities include mission projects, weekly bible study and worship and engaging with the children from Acorns and Oaks intergenerational daycare. Residents not only come to rehabilitate at Perry Lutheran Homes but also to enjoy their time while doing so. In addition, Perry Lutheran Homes Spring Valley Campus offers independent and assisted-living services.

“We are proud to serve Perry Lutheran Homes and help the Perry community build strength to enhance lives,” Blue Stone Therapy Solutions President Doug Johnson said. “Perry Lutheran Homes has a tradition of innovating patient care, and their leadership team really focuses on improving the quality of life for residents. Our therapy team has made a positive impact within the first 90 days while increasing patient function by 25 percent. Patients are responding well to their individualized rehabilitation programs, regaining independence and recovering faster.”

Perry Lutheran Homes CEO Max Phillips praised the Blue Stone Therapy partnership.

“Our team is always looking for innovative and unique ways to provide exceptional resident care,” Phillips said. “We saw an opportunity to provide new rehab programs for patients recovering from most surgeries. Blue Stone is currently developing new programs for our independent and assisted-living residents to help sustain their independence. Our team of therapists has really done a great job, and we look forward to providing the best patient care in Perry together.”
