Funeral services for Iola Wernli, 87, of Perry will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 at the First United Methodist Church in Perry. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill (Prairie Center) Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10–11 a.m. at the church preceding the service on Tuesday.

Iola passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at the Rowley Masonic Community in Perry, Iowa.

Vivian Iola Liles was born July 14, 1931, the daughter of Jay and Opal (Hazen) Liles in Ringgold County near Mt. Ayr, Iowa.

She attended schools and graduated with the class of 1949 from Mt. Ayr High School.

Iola married LeRoy Wernli in Des Moines, Iowa, Nov. 24, 1950, and moved to Perry, where they spent the entirety of their lives.

Iola was a devoted wife and mother and had worked at Medal Gold before her retirement.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Dennis (Deb) Wernli of Woodward and Bradenton, Fla., and Rick Wernli of Perry; daughter, Tami (Ed) Ridgway Ebel of Lake in the Hills, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Lisa (Mike) Jones, Jenni Good, Andrew Wernli, Jeff Wernli, Stacy (Eric) Parker, Michael Wernli, Justin (Megan) Ridgway and Lindsey (George) Ruiz; many great-grandchildren, as well as extended family Randy and Becky Rueter and their children, Michael and Leah.

Preceding Iola in death were her parents; husband in 2011; one son, James Wernli; son-in-law, Kent Ridgway; three brothers; and three sisters.

Memorials in Iola’s name will be directed to St. Croix Hospice and may be left at the Murdock Funeral Home in Perry.
