The fine arts of painting, sculpture, poetry, music and film crossed the stage Tuesday night in Perry when five Iowa Arts Council (IAC) fellows visited Perry for a Meet the Artist event.

Iowa City writer Rachel Yoder, Grinnell artist Lee Emma Running, Ames artist Jennifer Drinkwater, Des Moines filmmaker Jack Meggers and Dubuque musician River Breitbach spoke in turn about their recent work and their plans for the one-year IAC fellowship.

Each IAC fellow receives professional-development training along with a $10,000 grant to support new work. Along with Perry, the artists will host outreach events in Oskaloosa, Council Bluffs and Davenport and travel to New York in the spring for a Creative Capital conference.

IAC Grant Services and Artist Programs Manager Veronica O’Hern introduced each fellow and briefly outlines the role of the Iowa Arts Council, an agency of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.

Madrid printmaker Daniel Bounds also reviewed his work and invited attendees to Saturday’s upcoming print festival in Perry, a followup to 2015’s successful event.

Three kinds of soup and four kinds of bread were served at the reception following the event, and Breitbach sang and played on the guitar and fiddle.
