Four Perry High School students — Morgan Holmstrom, Breanna Penenger, Edwardo Medina and Alonzo Lumberers — have been selected to perform in the 2016 Iowa State University Cyclone Honor Band Festival Feb. 5-6 in Ames.
The 2016 festival will include two bands: a 65-member Gold Band, described as “the finest high school honor band ever assembled in our state,” and the 100-member Cardinal Band.
Dr. Timothy Rhea, Director of Bands at Texas A&M University, will conduct the Gold Band, whose members will be selected from the ranks of students achieving All-State Band honors.
The Cardinal Band, conducted by Prof. Dustin Seifert, director of bands at Eastern
New Mexico University, is recommended for outstanding sophomores, juniors and seniors of All-State or Honor Band caliber.
Michael Golemo, director of the bands for the Iowa State University Bands, told teachers and parents: “The exceptional conductors, combined with our clinics and ISU Wind Ensemble concert, will provide a truly first-class weekend for you and your students.”
The festival begins at 8 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5 with day-long rehearsals and will conclude with a final concert Saturday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. at C. Y. Stephens Auditorium at ISU. Tickets for the musical events will be $10 for adults and $5 for children, students and senior citizens over 65. For more information, visit the ISU Cyclone Honor Band Festival website.
