Iowa State University football quarterback Rocco Becht hosted a free summer football camp for fifth through eighth grade students in the Perry Middle School Saturday.
“Perry has gone through so much in the past year and this was a small way to show support and provide a fun day for the kids in Perry,” Becht said in a statement. “The state of Iowa and our community has given so much love to me and my family, and we wanted to find a way to give back.”
More than 100 students braved Saturday’s sweltering temperatures for the 9 a.m.-to-noon camp. Becht, with help from other Iowa State football players, taught the kids fundamental football concepts and some technical skills.
“This was entirely Rocco’s idea,” said Brent Blum, director of the We Will Collective, which sponsors the ISU-outreach camps. “We are honored to be able to help him make this a reality.”
Becht said he would use money he had made through name-image-likeness (NIL) to host the camp and would also make a donation directly to the Perry Community School District.
