Perry senior backstop Gabby West signed a letter of intent Friday to continue her softball career in Estherville for Iowa Lakes Community College.
West spent last year behind the plate for Perry. The Jayettes finished 10-22 overall and 1-13 in Raccoon River Conference play.
She produced 26 hits, which included three doubles and one home run. West drove in 19 runs and finished with a .271 batting average.
A four-sport athlete for Perry, it was West’s attitude and leadership capabilities which drew Lakers head coach Katie Larson to the Jayette squatter, with West saying she was drawn to the family-like atmosphere she discovered during a campus visit and while learning about the program and coaches.
The Lakers were 24-28 overall and 11-13 in conference play last year.
