Eight defensive miscues accounted for six unearned runs to help Pella leave the PAC with a 9-2 non-conference softball victory Tuesday.

The loss was the final home game for Katelyn Whelchel, the lone senior on the Jayette squad.

Pella (18-13) scored twice in the first inning and moved into an 8-0 lead by adding three runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth.

Perry (15-18) removed the goose egg on their line score with a run in the fifth. Maddie West walked and moved to third after a wild pitch and a Johanna Diw single. She scored when Emma Olejniczak singled.

Diw singled to start the Perry seventh after Pella had scored once in the top of the frame. She moved to second on a ground out, went to third on a Rachel Kinney single and crossed the plate to cap the scoring when Alyssa Kruger produced a RBI-ground out.

Diw had two hits in the setback, with Whelchel, Kinney, Kruger, Olejniczak and Sidney Vancil adding base hits for the hosts.

Olejniczak went the distance in the circle. She allowed nine runs (three earned) on seven hits and four walks while recording 10 strikeouts.

Perry opens postseason play Thursday with a visit to Boone. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
