Perry senior Ellie Nielsen watches her long putt on the ninth hole roll toward the cup -- and eventually stop just inches to the right -- during April 25 action.

POLK CITY — The Perry girls fired a combined round of 215 to defeat Kuemper Catholic and host North Polk in a triangular Monday.

Details were sketchy, but Perry head coach Joel Happel noted the Jayettes had won by four strokes despite taking only four golfers to the event as other players had scheduling conflicts.

Sophomore Alyssa Kruger continues to lead the way for Perry, despite a tendency to have one bad hole each round that elevates her score, Happel said.

“Alyssa had an eight on the last hole but still came in with a 47,” he said.

Senior Ellie Nielsen and junior Brooke Huntington have had seasons in which one will shoot low and the other high, but neither has tended to match the other at the same meet. Nielsen had a 49 Monday and Huntington a 60, drawing attention to Happel’s comment that “Ellie and Brooke have had very similar years, but never at the same time.”

The Jayettes also counted the round of 59 provided by Sarah Sweet to complete the team scoring.

Perry will return to action Thursday when they join Ogden for a triangular at ADM.
