BALLARD — For the second consecutive season the Ballard volleyball team won their first match of the year at Perry’s expense. The hosts were 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-11) winners over the Jayettes in a Raccoon River Conference match Tuesday.

Kacy Nevitt had 12 kills for Perry, with Peyton Tunink, Quinn Whiton and Bella Nath each adding one kill while Whiton had 10 assists and Jenisis Cerna three.

Magley Orellana’s 13 digs were a team high, with Whiton providing eight digs. Mary Ann Riesberg and Cerna each had five digs, Jasmine Shriver four, Nevitt three and Tunink one. Nevitt, Whiton and Lanie Fish all finished with two blocks apiece.

Riesberg served 11-of-12, Shriver 8-of-9, Orellana 7-of-7 and Nevitt 2-of-4. Whiton was 3-of-4 with one ace behind the line, with both Tunink and Cerna finishing 2-of-4.

The loss drops Perry to 6-4 overall and 0-3 in RRC action while Ballard rose to 1-6, 1-2.

Perry hosts Bondurant-Farrar Tuesday before playing in the South Tama Invitational Sept. 28.
