Jayette seniors post impressive set of career numbers

Five seniors played their final softball games in a Perry uniform July 5, finishing their final season 10-22 overall. The quintet, including their eighth-grade season, ended their prep careers with 94 wins and a sixth place finish at the 2016 Class 4A state tournament.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]

Alyssa Kruger and Sid Vancil were five-year factors for the Jayettes, with Jo Diw a four-year starter while T.J. Sheehy and Grace Stewart began collecting varsity stats in the past two summers.

Kruger finished with 164 hits, 101 runs scored and 107 RBIs. She had 45 doubles, four triples and seven home runs and was 37-of-40 in stolen base attempts. The outfielder/pitcher was 164-496 (.331) at the plate in the career.

Vancil provided 140 hits, of which 28 were doubles, two were triples and four flew over the fence. The infielder drove in 76 runs and scored 99 times while swiping 41-of-46 bases. She finished 140-of-469 (.299) in the batter’s box.

Diw played exclusively in the infield, and finished her career with a school-record 27 home runs. She had 35 doubles and eight triples as part of 191 total hits. Diw scored 145 runs, drove in 108 and swiped 42-of-50 bases. The four-year starter was 191-of-451 (.424) with the bat in her hand.

Sheehy played third base and was a two-year starter. She had 22 hits (10 doubles) and scored 15 runs while driving in eight. Stewart started for two years in left field, providing eight RBIs and 12 hits while scoring 14 runs.

The Jayettes are coached by Tina Lutterman, with Ashley Fricke assisting.
