Jayette softball divides four games

WOODWARD — Perry won two of three games at the Woodward-Granger Classic after falling at North Polk Thursday to send the overall Jayette softball record to 5-10.

Perry had dropped a 7-2 decision at North Polk before bouncing back with a 6-4 win over Ogden Friday at the two-day W-G Classic. The game was stopped short due to lightning, with a second Friday game cancelled.

Pleasantville bested Perry, 10-6, Saturday, but the Jayettes capped their weekend with a 5-3 victory over the host Hawks.

Perry grabbed a 5-0 lead, then held off W-G for the win in their annual battle.

Lydia Olejniczak had three singles, Jayna Kenney two singles and a double and Macy Killmer two singles for the Jayettes. Aidyn Hood, Peyton Tunink, Taylor Atwell, and Kathryn West also had hits.

Peyton Tunink had two RBIs, with Kennedy Tunink, Kenney and Killmer also driving in runs.

Lauren Rodgers had three hits for W-G and Taylor Noah two, with NataLeigh Herron, Ava Petersen, and Audrey Simmons adding singles. Petersen and Chloe Houge each had a RBIs, with Houge, Bella McDivitt, and Maddi Rodgers each scoring once.

Kenney scattered eight hits, yielding three runs (one earned) on two walks in earning the pitching win, with Herron allowing five runs on 11 hits and a walk in taking the loss. Four strikeouts were recorded by Kenney and one by Herron.

Perry led Pleasantivlle, 4-2, after one frame, but four runs in the top of the second and again in the third pushed the Trojans in front, 10-4. The Jayettes added two runs in the sixth but could not complete the comeback.

Olejniczak cranked a home run while adding a single and scoring twice. Kenney had three hits, a run and a RBI, with Hood having one run, one RBI and two hits. Kenney Tunink had a double, a run, and a RBI, with Atwell having a RBI-single while West also scored.

Kenney tossed 2-2/3 innings, surrendering four runs on four hits and two walks while Maci Tunink yielded six runs (four earned) in 1-1/3 frames. She walked two, allowed five hits, and struck out one.

Killmer had three RBIs and Hood and Petyon Tunink one each in the win over Ogden. Kassidy Atwell scored twice, with Sydney Barkley, Kennedy Tunink, Jasmine Shriver and Olejniczak also touching the plate.

Kenney had a single, a double, and a RBI, with Shriver contributing a hit and did five others. Kenney went four frames on the rubber, allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out three.

Two Perry runs in the top of the sixth brought the guests to within 5-2 at North Polk Thursday, but the hosts countered with two runs of their own then held on for the Raccoon River Conference win.

Killmer had two hits, with Kenney adding a single, a run, and a RBI. Addison Huntington had a single, with Shriver scoring the other Jayette run.

Kenney pitched three frames, as did Maci Tunink. The former allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk while the latter surrendered two runs on five hits a walk.
