CARROLL — Perry topped familiar foe Algona, 47-44, as part of a girls swimming double-dual Monday. Host Carroll was a twin-winner, defeating Perry, 69-25, and Algona, 79-15. The format calls for each team to be scored independently against each opponent.

The meet was originally scheduled to be held in Perry, but work on the boilers at the McCreary Community Building called into question the warmth of the local pool, forcing officials to move the meet to Carroll, a decision made early last week.

Perry finished second to Carroll and first against Algona in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays, with Gracie Phillips, Amanda Holwegner, Sarah Vaughn and Avery Miner swimming the former in 2 minutes, 19.57 seconds while Vaughn, Phillips, Miner and Jaylene Karolus finished the later in 4:37.58.

The Jayettes were 3/2 (against Carroll/Algona) in the other relay, the 200 free. Holwegner, Miner, Karolus and Rhylan Agan had the duty, completing the race in 2:10.81.

Perry had a pair of double-winners, as Vaughn topped both foes in the 200 free in 2:24.28 while Karolus was first to the wall in the 100 butterfly in 1:09.08.

Karolus was 2/1 in the 200 individual medley (2:31), with Vaughn 2/1 in the 500 free (6:33.83) while Miner was 3/1 in the 100 free (1:08.39).

Phillips was 3/1 in the 100 backstroke (1:19.08), with Holwegner 3/1 in the 100 breaststroke (1:28.88).

Perry also contested the 50 free. Holwegner was 3/2, in 29.46 seconds, with Phillips third to Algona in 32.39 ticks.

The Jayettes will now prepare for their state qualifying meet, which will be held Nov. 2 in Fort Dodge. Action will begin at 12 p.m.
