Jayette swimmers collect awards at team dinner

Certificates and awards were presented to the Perry swim team by coach Jean Dowd at the annual end-of-season team dinner Tuesday at the McCreary Community Building.

A potluck dinner was held, followed by the awarding of several honors, including the humorous awards voted on by the team members themselves. Bowls of Jim Dowd’s homemade ice cream capped the event.

Co-captain Haileigh Kenyon was the lone senior on the seven-member squad this season. She was honored for Most Meet Points (489) and Most Overall Team Points (1,748), with junior co-captain Haley Vaughn noted as Most Academic after posting a grade point average of 4.08.

Kenyon, Vaughn and sophomores Vivian Gonzalez, Breanna Penenger, Breanna Ackerman and Sadee Whitfield were honored with an IGHSAU Academic Award for a combined team gpa of 3.54. As freshmen grades are not counted, Anna Ridnour was not included in the award. Kenyon, Vaughn, Gonzalez and Penenger also received individual academic awards for have a 3.25 GPA or higher.

Kenyon was named Most Valuable and the received the Bluejay Award, with Ridnour tabbed Rookie of the Year while Ackerman and Ridnour shared the Most Improved award.

Gonzalez, Kenyon, Penenger, Ridnour and Vaughn all also received certificates as members of the 1,000 Point Club.
