CARROLL — The Perry swim team capped their regular season with a Monday visit to Carroll. Algona was also present, creating a triple-dual in which each team was scored against each opponent separately.

Carroll topped both Perry (74-28) and Algona (78-25), with Perry defeating Algona (58-38).

The recent return to action of freshman Gracie Phillips allowed head coach Jean Dowd to switch some lineup assignments as well as create two 200 medley relay teams for the first time this season.

Phillips had been battling an injury before swimming in competition for the first time last week. She and sophomore Amanda Holwegner are Panorama students who compete for Perry as part of a sharing agreement.

Sarah Vaughn, Abby Herman and sisters Dannah (a junior) and Jaylene (a freshman) Karolus were second to Carroll and first against Algona in the medley relay in 2 minutes, 16.94 seconds, with the foursome of Phillips, Holwegner, Anna Ridnour and Avery Miner third to Algona in 2:27.85.

Dannah Karolus was 2/1 (Carroll/Algona) with a personal best 2:14.69 in the 200 free, with Vaughn 3/2 in 2:24.79 while Herman used a personal best clocking of 2:46.01 to place 3/1 in the 200 IM while Ridnour was second to Algona in the event in 2:50.75.

Holwegner’s 30.49 effort was third to Algona in the 50 free, with Jaylene Karolus sweeping the 100 butterfly in 1:10.69.

A personal best 1:04.97 gave Holwegner a 3/1 result in the 100 free, with Miner second to Algona in 1:10.64.

Dannah Karolus swam the 500 free for the first time in her prep career, finishing 2/1 in 6:04.97 while Vaughn was 3/2 in 6:22.28.

Miner, Holwegner, Ridnour and Herman teamed to finish 3/2 in the 200 free relay in 2:05.47, with the quartet of Herman, Vaughn and the Karolus sisters 2/1 in the 400 free relay in 4:29.25.

Jaylene Karolus touched in 1:12.86 to finish 2/1 in the 100 backstroke, with Phillips third to Algona in a personal best 1:27.43 while Ridnour was 3/1 in the 100 breaststroke in 1:28.47.

Perry will swim in a Regional Meet at Ankeny Saturday. The meet will begin at 12 p.m. and will also include Boone, Carroll, Des Moines Hoover, Des Moines Roosevelt, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa and West Des Moines Valley.
