Jayette volleyball collects first wins of season

TAMA — A long drive east paid off for the Perry volleyball team Saturday as the Jayettes left the South Tama Tourney with a 2-1 record, their first two victories of the year.

Perry (2-15) opened play by dropping their first set to East Marshall (7-10), 2-17. The Jayettes then rallied for a 21-19 win to force a third set, which Perry claimed, 17-15.

Belle Plaine (8-5) was a 21-17, 21-13 winner over Perry, but the Jayettes came back strong to beat BGM (1-11), 21-11, 23-21.

Perry was a combined 96-of-110 (87.2 percent) serving, with 10 total aces. Ashley Cerna was 19-of-19 with two aces, Kacy Nevitt 15-21-3, and Jenisis Cerna 14-17-2 to lead the way. Jasmine Shriver was 11-12-1 and Lanie Fish 7-9-2, with Quinn Whiton 17-of-17 and Peyton Tunink 13-of-16.

Shriver had a team-best 26 kills, with Nevitt making 17. Whiton added five kills, Ashley Cerna three and Jayna Kenney one. Whiton provided 34 assists, Nevitt three and both Ashley and Jenisis Cerna one assist apiece.

Shriver led the Jayettes with 19 digs, with Whiton and Ashley Cerna tallying 16 each. Jenisis Cerna had 15 digs, Tunink nine, and Nevitt and Addison Huntington two apiece. Nevitt had 1.5 blocks as the net and Shriver one, with Whiton recording an assisted block.

Perry plays a pair of Raccoon River Conference road matches next week, visiting Winterset Tuesday and Gilbert Thursday.
