ROLAND — The first of a four-games-in-two-days visit to the Roland-Story Tournament resulted in a split decision for Perry Friday, with Class 3A No. 6 North Polk claiming a 7-3 win before the Jayettes bounced back to one-hit South Hamilton, 6-0.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

Perry (6-12) was the home team against North Polk (12-4) and scored once in the first before offsetting three Comet runs in the top of the second with two of their own in the bottom of the frame to tie the contest at 3-all.

Unfortunately for the Jayettes, the Comet bats could not be stilled, and single tallies were plated in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings as the visiting squad pulled away.

North Polk starter Bailey Houghman had yielded three runs on three hits and two walks in two innings and gave way to Sophie Swygman, who fanned four and allowed just two hits over her five frames in the ring.

Hannah Pals had three singles, a double and two RBIs for the Comets, with Hailey Steffen swatting two doubles and scoring three times while Trisha Sporra drove in two runs with a triple.

Alyssa Kruger suffered the loss, surrendering seven run (six earned) on 14 hits and a walk in seven innings. She hit one batter and recorded five strikeouts.

Jo Diw had a single and a double for Perry, with Kruger and Macy Kilmer each adding base hits.

Kruger was at her best against South Hamilton in Perry’s second game. The senior threw six innings, allowing one hit while hitting one batter and striking out five. Peyton Tunink tossed an inning of relief, allowing a walk while notching a strikeout.

Perry scored twice in the first frame and twice again in the second before adding two final runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Diw yanked two home runs over the fence while driving in three runs. The senior now has four long-balls for the season and 26 for her career.

Sid Vancil had a single and a double with a RBI, with Gabby West also hitting a single and a double. Kruger had a double, with Adriana Eastman, T.J. Sheehy and Grace Stewart all adding base hits.

Perry faces Gilbert at 9:30 a.m. and Nevada at 11:30 a.m. today at the R-S Tourney.
