Perry scored twice in the second inning and added three runs in the third to claim a 5-1 win over Saydel at the PAC Thursday.
Rachel Kinney’s double started the first scoring spurt for Perry (16-4). Emma Olejniczak was hit by a pitch to put two runners aboard, with an error on an Adriana Eastman sacrifice attempt plating Kinney. Olejniczak would score later when T.J. Sheehy hit an infield grounder, with the throw to the plate too late to stop the run.
Saydel (10-9) countered with a tally in the top of the third, but Perry’s three-run response was more than enough to secure the win.
A Sid Vancil single and Alyssa Kruger double started the rally, with Olejniczak driving both both with a base hit. Olejniczak would then score on a Maddie West single.
Olejniczak allowed just three hits, with the one Saydel run unearned. She issued one walk and finished with 15 strikeouts.
Kinney added a single to her double, with Kruger’s double joined by hits from Olejniczak, West, Vancil and Jo Diw.
The Jayettes warmed up in pink “Strike Out Cancer” t-shirts and wore special pink socks during the game to draw attention to, and support, the fight against cancer.
Olejniczak was honored before the game with a plaque in recognition of her surpassing the 1,000 career strikeout threshold, a feat which happened June 8 against Ballard.
