Jayettes kept from win column at home invite

The Perry netters dropped a 3-0 Raccoon River Conference match Thursday against host and 10th-ranked Gilbert.

The Perry volleyball team welcomed Earlham, Nodaway Valley, South Hamilton, and West Central Valley Thursday to the Jayette Tournament, but the hosts were kept from the win column in all four of their matches.

Perry fell to Earlham, 2-1, to begin play. The Jayettes posted a 21-17 win in the first set, but then fell, 22-20, and 15-7, to suffer the loss.

Setbacks of 21-16, 21-15 to South Hamilton, and of 21-18, 21-18 to WCV followed, with Nodaway Valley winning on scores of 21-12, 21-20. The losses dropped Perry to 0-13 overall for the season.

Nodaway Valley improved to 12-3 with a 4-0 mark in the tourney, with WCV finishing 3-1 to lift their overall record to 4-8. Final results from Earlham and South Hamilton were not available.

Jasmine Shriver led Perry with 17 kills, with Kacy Nevitt adding 16. Ashley Cerna made six total kills, Peyton Tunink and Quinn Whiton three apiece and Maci Tunink two. Whiton distributed 41 of the 44 Perry assists, with Nevitt, Ashley Cerna, and Jenisis Cerna having one each.

Nevitt was strong at the net, finishing with 6.5 blocks. Shriver had two blocks, and Peyton Tunink one while Whiton, Ashley Cerna, and Lanie Fish were each credited with an assisted block.

Shriver had 45 digs, Whiton 32 and Ashley Cerna 24. Jenisis Cerna tallied 18 digs, Peyton Tunink eight, and Nevitt seven, with Fish and Maci Tunink having four apiece, Addison Huntington three and Bella Nath one.

Perry served 93-of-109 with 13 aces, a success rate of 85.3 percent.

Ashley Cerna was 20-22-2, Jenisis Cerna 18-18-3, and Whiton 17-19-3 while Shriver was also 17-19-3. Nevitt was 14-20-2 behind the line, and Peyton Tunink 5-of-8, with Fish good on both of her serves while Maci Tunink was 0-for-1.

Perry will resume play Tuesday with a visit to Carroll, their only action next week.
