Jayettes play to split at Graves Tourney after RRC setback

Perry opened action Saturday at the Paul and Mary Ann Graves Tournament with a 13-1 win over Baxter, garnering the first victory of the season for the Jayette softballers.

Van Meter won the Graves crown with a 7-2 win over Perry, with Van Meter an 11-3 victor over Glenwood and Glenwood a 16-2 winner over Baxter in the other contests.

Those results for Perry followed an 11-0 loss to visiting Winterset in Raccoon River Conference play Thursday.

Jayna Kenney allowed a run on three hits and a walk in the win over the Bolts. She finished with four strikeouts for the hosts.

Kathryn West had a triple and a single, with Peyton Tunink adding a double while Lydia Olejniczak and Macy Killmer aided the attack with two singles apiece.

Kenney started and threw 4-1/3 innings against Van Meter, with Maci Tunink pitching one frame. The former surrendered six runs (four earned) on seven htis and two walks. She hit one batter and struck out three while Tunink allowed a run on two hits and a walk.

Olejniczak had a triple, walked once and scored both Perry runs, with Aidyn Hood having a single and a RBI while Kenney also drove in a run.

Kenney toed the rubber for the first three innings and was touched for 11 runs (six earned) on 11 hits and two walks. Maci Tunink relieved, retiring the side, in order, in both the fourth and fifth innings.

A single from Kenney was the only Perry hit, with Peyton Tunink, Maci Tunink, and Taylor Atwell each drawing a base on balls.
