Perry senior Sarah Vaughn swims in the 500 freestyle against Spencer and Atlantic Tuesday at the MCB pool.

Seniors Sarah Vaughn and Avery Miner were recognized Tuesday at the MCB pool as Perry welcomed Spencer and Atlantic for a double-dual.

Both have been long-time swimmers for Perry, beginning with the summer swim team and then continuing as four-year members of the Jayettes. They were presented gifts from teammates and recognized during a break in the meet.

Perry also used the occasion to help draw awareness to the fight against breast cancer, with Jayette swimmers donning pink caps while the pool was surrounded with pink rubber ducks.

Spencer topped Perry, 115-31, and bested Atlantic, 81-75, with Atlantic defeating Perry 93-40. The Jayettes left both the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly uncontested and were competing without Jaylene Karolus, who was busy earning All-RRC honors at the conference cross country meet.

The 200 medley relay teams of Gracie Phillips, Amanda Holwegner, Vaughn and Miner were third to Spencer and second to Atlantic in 2 minutes, 24.09 seconds. Holwegner, Miner, Rhylan Agan and Hailey Meacham were third to both opponents, in 2:20.4, in the 200 free relay, with Miner, Meacham, Phillips and Vaughn 3/2 (against Spencer/Atlantic) in the 400 free relay in 4:50.61.

Vaughn was 2/3 in the 500 free (6:18.06), Phillips 3/1 in the 100 backstroke (1:19.6) and Holwegner 3/2 in the 100 breaststroke (1:26.42), with Holwegner 3/3 in the 50 free (30.6) while Phillips finished the race in 33.04 but did not score.

Meacham was 3/2 in the 200 free in 2:42.52, a personal-best time created by a drop of 1.31 seconds. Agan was third to Atlantic in 3:22.58, which was also a personal best effort that represented a shaving of 6.75 seconds off her previous fastest time.

Miner trimmed .09 seconds for a PB in the 100 free at 1:07.31, a clocking that earned third place against both opponents. Meacham also swam the race, touching in 1:16.58.

Perry will travel to Carroll Monday for a meet originally scheduled as a home contest. Algona will also be in action at the double-dual, which will start at 5:30 p.m.
